Dementia Awareness

Aims To give staff the knowledge and understanding to provide effective care for this challenging client group

This course is designed by registered nurses with experience of caring for people with Dementia

Duration and format  

Comprises – 3 guided learning hours usually over 1 morning, afternoon or evening . There will be group work, tutor led teaching, power point slides and role play.
Course Content

On completion of this training students will be able to :

  • Understand the definition of dementia and  it’s causes
  • Understand the various types of dementia
  • Understand the areas of the brain effected and the progressive symptoms of dementia
  • Understand the importance of communication and the effects of dementia on behaviour
  • Identify strategies to deal with confusion, memory loss, depression and general changes in behaviour
  • Understand the effects of dementia on the family, the carers and how to support them
  • Understand the main treatments for dementia

Assessment guidelines and student resources

Students will at the start of the course receive handouts and on completion of this course will receive a certificate of attendance from AMTD

Cost £30 pp or £250 per session maximum 10 people delivered in your workplace.
